The Destroy All Boundaries Directing Partnership is a personal, very specific platform to mentor new directors through the creative and professional milestones at the early part of their careers.

The program was initiated by writer/director Adam Egypt Mortimer, who after years of work and three features (Archenemy, Daniel Isn’t Real, Some Kind of Hate), felt he had amassed enough experience to be a help to the community. Joining him is Jordan Crucchiola, a producer, podcaster (Aughtsterion, Disaster Girls, A Simple Podcast), and writer (New York Magazine).
There are a lot of resources out there that provide guidance on how to be a screenwriter, but there are fewer options out in the community focused on directors. Maybe you’ve made some great short films and played in festivals; maybe you’ve already cracked your first feature but are now finding yourself wondering how to use your momentum or create more. That’s what Adam really wants to help people out with using his first-hand experience, and what Jordan wants to help him do by being the co-chair of this thing: A 6-week program where a few new directors can build a community among one another while getting guidance from Adam and learning how the business of making movies actually works with practical knowledge.
“We’re doing it for free because we believe in fostering a community, demystifying the process, giving people more tools, and helping to melt down the gates,” Adam tells us.
Working with 5-6 filmmaker mentees, Adam and Jordan will meet once a week for 6 weeks. In those 6 sessions, they’ll talk about things like look-books, pitching, finding books or properties to adapt, developing long term creative strategies, relationships with producers, on-set issues, and the ways of managing the general basket of anxieties that make you feel like you can’t go on. Because you must go on!

Ideally, there will be opportunities to introduce mentees to producers, executives, and other creatives who are further along in their careers. They’d like to be able to invite mentees to assist, shadow, or otherwise gather hands-on experience in between their own projects. Adam and Jordan are also committed to maintaining their relationships with the mentees beyond the 6 weeks of meetings.
“In success, we are hoping to grow a support system, to build a community,” Adam continues. “You take a lot of hits in Hollywood. You get told ‘no’ a lot. It’s good to have a support system, and it will be good to have someone who has experienced the extreme challenges of the industry to give you some answers to your questions.”
