The press release reads:
World-famous for “Movies of the Future,” many of Troma’s classics were written and directed by Troma Toppers, Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, such as SQUEEZE PLAY, THE FIRST TURN- ON!, SGT. KABKIMAN, N.Y.P.D., and of course, THE TOXIC AVENGER, as well as many others. Troma Entertainment has also helped usher in the careers of so many of today top Hollywood luminaries, such as James Gunn (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, THE SUICIDE SQUAD), Trey Parker and Matt Stone (SOUTH PARK), Eli Roth (HOSTEL), Jenna Fischer (THE OFFICE), Samuel L. Jackson (PULP FICTION). Not to mention, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Costner, Fergie, Paul Walker, and Vincent D’Onofrio, who all got their start in Troma films.
AGFA will distribute seventy films from Troma’s movie library to theaters. This is AGFA’s latest collaboration following their distribution partnerships with Arrow Films (DONNIE DARKO), Multicom (FREEWAY), Severin Films (SANTA SANGRE), Shout! Factory (BLACK CHRISTMAS), and Vinegar Syndrome (TAMMY AND THE T-REX).
From CLASS OF NUKE ‘EM HIGH to COMBAT SHOCK, the Troma catalog is like a guidebook of essential genre film history from the past forty years,” said AGFA Creative Director Joe Ziemba. “One of my fondest movie memories from childhood was renting THE TOXIC AVENGER on VHS at a sleepover and completely losing my mind — we’re grateful for the opportunity to replicate that feeling in theaters.
AGFA has curated seventy films from Troma’s catalog to reissue in theaters. These movies include iconic cult milestones such as THE TOXIC AVENGER, essential horror films like DEF BY TEMPTATION from Black filmmaker James Bond III, slasher funblasts like THE CHILDREN, and cult favorites such as CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL from the creators of SOUTH PARK.
Troma movies are available on DCP — and in some cases, 35mm — for theatrical bookings from AGFA starting immediately.
