The TOXIC AVENGER Reboot Keeps Adding More Actors!
The Toxic Avenger is probably up there with some of the best trash I’ve ever watched. “Trash”, in the case of Lloyd Kaufman’s vast Troma empire is a compliment. Stuff like Sergeant Kabukiman NYPD and Tromeo and Juliet pulled me into a world of grime and gross that I never wanted to leave. Even with a bigger budget, and the backing of Legendary Pictures, I’d hope the spirit of the film will stay the same.

We’ve got news that the reboot is adding Jonny Coyne (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) and Sarah Niles (I May Destroy You) to the cast. Peter Dinklage will be leading the film, which follows a regular guy who gets pushed into toxic waste. The chemicals make him into a mutant freak. But he must overcome society’s fear of him and rise up to become a hero. To become…The Toxic Avenger.
Coyne and Niles will play a criminal figure and a corrupt city official respectively. They’re joining a cast of heavy hitters. Elijah Wood, Taylour Paige, and of course Kevin Bacon, who none of us are more than 6 degrees away from at all times. Shooting starts in June in Bulgaria. Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore) will be directing The Toxic Avenger. I loved Blair in Jeremy Saulnier’s Murder Party and Blue Ruin.
Are you ready to experience big-budget Troma via The Toxic Avenger? It almost seems like an oxymoron writing it.
