John Krasinski Talks “Third Installment” of A QUIET PLACE Franchise

A Quiet Place Part II still

We actually don’t know if it’s going to be A Quiet Place 3. Rumors are swirling that it’s a spinoff set in the A Quiet Place universe. The only person who knows for sure is probably the writer/director of A Quiet Place Parts 1 and 2, John Krasinski. Also, I’d assume his pick to helm the “third installment” – as Krasinski calls it – Jeff Nichols.

Krasinski recently sat down with Empire and talked about the third A Quiet Place film, and what bringing Jeff Nichols in as director means.

“Truly the only person I had in mind when asked whether I would hand this off was Jeff. I think he’s one of the best filmmakers, Mud is one of my favourite movies, and so real and intimate. It’s exactly the sort of paints we’re painting with in A Quiet Place – very organic characters you fall in love with. So he was my first choice for this, and when he said yes I was over the moon. I pitched him my story, he’s gone and developed the world on his own with that jumping-off point, and I’m so thrilled. He’s actually just turning in a script now, and I loved it. I absolutely loved it, and I can’t wait to see him shoot this thing.”

I haven’t seen A Quiet Place part 2, but I loved the first installment and can’t wait to see where Nichols might take it. Much like Krasinksi, I’m also a huge fan of Mud. It’s solid. Krasinksi was coy about where the franchise might go next, but he seems hopeful.

“Is it going to continue the Abbotts? Who knows!” No, I will tell you that it is… I’m really excited about the third installment because it’s going to do something that we haven’t done before.”

SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT FOR A QUIET PLACE PART II

The rest of the interview gets into HEAVY SPOILERS. If you haven’t seen A Quiet Place Part II leave, lest ye be spoiled! I haven’t seen it, but I’m writing this, so I guess I’m self-spoiling.

The ending of the last shot is, now that the world knows about [the signal that the creatures are vulnerable to], what will the world do with this answer, or with this weapon? Will they be responsible with it, or will they not be responsible with it?” Let’s hope we figure it out when A Quiet Place Part III, or whatever it may be called, hits theaters.
