A Monster Prowls The Streets Of Gotham City In New Comic Series BATMAN: REPTILIAN From Writer Garth Ennis
Something hungry stalks the streets of Gotham City in a new horror-themed comic miniseries called Batman: Reptilian, which comes from writer Garth Ennis and illustrator Liam Sharp. Published by DC’s Black Label, the six-issue miniseries finds Batman hunting a terrifying new monster that targets the villains of Gotham City, leaving a bloody trail of death and destruction in its wake. Described by DC as a “dark and bone-chilling tale”, it sounds like this could be one of Batman’s most haunting adventures to date, so fans won’t want to miss it.

Ennis is perhaps best known for being the co-creator of Preacher, and The Boys, and his work on Hellblazer has also been widely praised. He has also written a vast number of Punisher comics for Marvel, with his Punisher MAX series often being viewed as some of his finest work. Interestingly, Ennis has been highly critical of the superhero genre in the past, so it will be interesting to see how he approaches the character of Batman for this new miniseries. While Ennis has written some Batman comics in the past, such as several issues of Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, Reptilian will certainly be his longest story featuring the Caped Crusader to date, and it will hopefully also be his best.
From everything we’ve seen so far, it also seems like Batman: Reptilian will offer a perfect mix of horror and superhero action, and the horror elements are complemented by Sharp’s creepy artwork. Rather than the sprawling metropolis it was depicted as in recent movies, Sharp draws Gotham City in Batman: Reptilian as a cold and dark hellhole, which perfectly suits the creepy tone of the book. Ennis’ signature black humour is also very much intact, and the first issue even opens with Batman savagely knocking a notorious criminal unconscious before nonchalantly saying that he was acting in self-defence.
There are tons of comics featuring Batman on the market at this point, but Reptilian stands out from the crowd, and we can’t wait to see how the terrifying story unfolds. The first issue of Batman: Reptilian is available now, and fans should be excited to read the remaining five issues over the coming months.
