GREENLAND Sequel MIGRATION Sold To STX For $75M At Cannes Virtual Market

The Greenland sequel Migration sold to STX for $75 million at the Cannes Virtual Market in one of the biggest deals seen yet. Deadline Hollywood first reported news of the sale to STX.

Synopsis:
John Garrity, his estranged wife and their young son embark on a perilous journey to find sanctuary as a planet-killing comet hurtles toward Earth. Amid terrifying accounts of cities getting levelled, the Garrity’s experience the best and worst in humanity. As the countdown to the global apocalypse approaches zero, their incredible trek culminates in a desperate and last-minute flight to a possible safe haven.

According to Deadline Hollywood, European financier Anton is fully financing the deal. Anton’s CEO Sebastien Raybaud said in a statement, “STX and their partners did an incredible job of launching the film worldwide last year and we are thrilled the sequel will return ‘home’ for the exciting next chapter of this must-see adventure,”

Rick Roman Waugh will be returning to direct Greenland: Migration, with Chris Sparling writing the script. Gerard Butler is reprising his role as John Garrity, alongside co-star Morena Baccarin.

In Greenland, Butler and Baccarin portraying an estranged couple making a treacherous journey with their son while a global apocalypse unfolds around them. The sequel continues the Garrity’s story as they try to make it across the remains of a destroyed Europe to find a new home.

Greenland debuted directly on Video On Demand platforms in the U.S., making the sales unclear; but it played on the big screen in more than 26 countries, earning $52 million from the international box office.

Adam Fogelson, STX‘s Motion Picture Group Chairman added to Anton’s sentiments, stating that “Gerry, Morena, Ric, Basil and Alan were fantastic partners on the first film, and we look forward to building on the success and momentum as we work together with Anton to deliver another effects-based spectacle driven by great characters and performances. What comes next for the Garrity Family is even more thrilling.”

Thunder Road Pictures and G-BASE are producing Greenland: Migration, expected to begin production in 2022.
