WATCH: Chilling New Teaser Trailer for Sci-Fi Drama RUBIKON

Rubikon

The Playmaker Munich (formerly ARRI Media International) has released the teaser trailer for their upcoming sci-fi chiller Rubikon, Variety reports. The space drama is directed by Magdalena Lauritsch and is written by Jessica Lind and Lauritsch. The title is one of only seven international genre films in the prestigious  Cannes’ Frontières Showcase. It’s also Lauritsch’s debut feature film.

Rubikon’s plot centers around a biological catastrophe that sees Earth covered in a mysterious toxic fog (no word yet on if it turns people inside out).

Meanwhile, high above the disaster sits the crew of a space station Rubikon. There, an ensemble of astronauts face a grave decision. They must either risk their lives by returning to earth or instead stay forever safely nested in the space station. The group includes Hannah (Julia Franz Richter), Gavin (George Blagden) and Dimitri (Mark Ivanir).

The Playmaker Munich describes Rubikon as “a highly entertaining science-fiction feature and at the same time a social commentary about a moral dilemma.” We’re tense just thinking about it.

Playmaker Munich continues by asking “Do we owe people in need whom we don’t know? Can we still live a jaunty life in a social bubble, while knowing how much pain and misery there is outside? Are our lives, and those of whom we love, too valuable to sacrifice for a noble but unrealistic greater good? This film questions whether we have the right to seal ourselves off in safety and ignorance from ongoing problems in the world.”

Rubikon is produced by Samsara Filmproduktion in co-production with Graf Filmproduktion.
