Mike Flanagan Now Brings SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN to Netflix
The duo who brought us The Haunting of Hill House is back again to bring another scary series to Netflix. This time they’re tackling an adaptation of the hit graphic novel Something Is Killing the Children from writer James Tynion IV and artist Werther Dell’Edera (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Macy and Flansgan’s Intrepid Pictures are also responsible for recent horror triumphs Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game. The duo is co-writing and will executive produce the pilot based on the critically acclaimed and highly successful BOOM! Studios horror comic series.
First released in 2019, the graphic novel was a surprise smash hit for BOOM and has yet to lose momentum. The debut copy alone has sold over 175,000 prints, and the series as a whole has already sold over 1.2 million copies since its release. To be clear, this is an unprecedented accomplishment, even when considering the sales of both Marvel and DC.
The first installment of Something Is Killing The Children tells the story of a small town ravaged by terrifying monsters who devour the nearby children. Hope soon arrives in the form of a girl named Erica Slaughter. And let’s just say Erica lives up to her name…
Tynion’s writing, while harrowing, also incorporates themes of grief and queer matters. It’s absolutely worth checking out.
Flanagan’s Intrepid Pictures are also bringing us two other series: Midnight Mass, a dark thriller, and The Midnight Club, an adaptation of the Christopher Pike horror series. BOOM Studios is in post-production on its own gateway-horror show, Just Beyond, a collaboration with R.L. Stine for Disney+.
