IFC Midnight Releasing WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING in Theaters and on VOD September 3rd

We Need To Do Something

Dread Central’s Michelle Swope said this about We Need to Do Something: “Expert storytelling and spectacular performances… A terrifying, one-of-a-kind horror film.” Chad Collins had this to say: “Unhinged, chaotic, and abounding with occult chills, We Need to Do Something is poised to be one of 2021’s most ambiguous yet enduringly frightening horror debuts.”

Those of us who weren’t able to see We Need to Do Something at Tribeca will finally get to see what all the buzz is about when IFC releases the film in theaters and on VOD beginning September 3rd, 2021. We don’t have a trailer yet, but you can read the synopsis and more about the film below.

Synopsis:
After Melissa and her family seek shelter from a storm, they become trapped. With no sign of rescue, hours turn to days and Melissa comes to realize that she and her girlfriend Amy might have something to do with the horrors that threaten to tear her family – and the entire world – apart.

Sean King O’Grady directed in his debut narrative feature. And written by Max Booth III, based on his novella of the same name. Sierra McCormick (The Vast of Night) stars with Vinessa Shaw (Hocus Pocus), and Pat Healy (Cheap Thrills, The Innkeepers). Plus, John James Cronin (NOS4A2), and newcomer Lisette Alexis.

Bill Stertz, John Malerman (Bird Box), Ryan Lewis (Bird Box), and Peter Block (Saw) produced. Executive producers are Lauren Hantz, John Hantz, Donovan Leitch, Katherine Waddell, and Max Booth III. This is the first film produced by production and financing entity Hantz Motion Pictures. Atlas Industries, Spin a Black Yarn, and A Bigger Boat also produced. Jean-Phillippe Bernier served as DP and Shane Patrick Ford as the editor. It will have its world premiere in the Midnight Section at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival. IFC Midnight will release the film later this year in theaters and on-demand.

Arianna Bocco, President of IFC Films said, “It requires incredible skill to be able to ratchet up that much tension from just a few very key ingredients, and Sean executes his debut with absolute precision and a much-needed sense of humor. We’re thrilled to bring this wildly entertaining yet disturbing chiller to audiences nationwide.”

Director Sean King O’Grady added, “It amazes me that anyone would be willing to distribute the hilariously sick film we concocted to exorcise our own personal pandemic demons. But we are all excited to have bold and passionate partners in IFC Midnight to bring this insane movie to unsuspecting audiences all over North America.”

This week we're joined by Alex Henes and Matt Merenda, the filmmakers behind the yoga-horror found footage film Mind Body Spirit, which is available on demand and streaming on Shudder and AMC+. We chat about Sarah J. Bartholomew's fantastic performance, the script and more before diving into their childhoods and their very different reactions to horror as a kid. Then we chat about The Brave Little Toaster and how it destroyed all four of our childhoods. Anthropomorphic appliances, self-cannibalism, religion...this movie has it all and we laugh our way through describing just how messed up it actually is.
