Parker Posey Now Joins Joaquin Phoenix On Ari Aster’s DISAPPOINTMENT BLVD
Not a ton is known about Ari Aster’s mysterious follow-up to his groundbreaking sunlit horror Midsommar. However, the cast is rounding out nicely for his upcoming Disappointment Blvd.
The filmmaker has wrought the horror community with two of the most discussed titles of the past decade with Hereditary and Midsommar. Love him or leave him, the director has got a knack for delivering films that get us talking. His work has drawn comparisons to Kubrick, and I have a tough time arguing the parallels.
Deadline reports his next film will be “an intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time.”
Interesting.
It’s hard to speculate if it’ll be another genre outing, although Aster has referred to the concept as a “nightmare comedy”. However, it’s hard to know if he was actually talking about Disappointment Blvd.
Meanwhile, the cast for Disappointment Blvd now includes Joaquin Phoenix, Nathan Lane, Parker Posey, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Denis Ménochet, Pattie LuPone, Amy Ryan, Hayley Squires, Michael Gandolfini and Zoe Lister-Jones.
A24 signed on to finance the film after Phoenix announced it as his follow-up to his Oscar-winning performance in Joker.
While chatting with the UC Santa Barbara’s Daily Nexus a year ago, Aster teased that the upcoming film was likely going to be roughly four hours long. And I’m not mad.
Aster and Lars Knudsen are producing Disappointment Blvd through their banner Square Peg. The label has been busy this week. They recently announced a new collaboration with Pulitzer Prize and New York Drama Critics Circle winning playwright Michael R. Jackson.
Deadline reports that Jackson has sold an original idea to write a horror feature for A24. Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen are producing under their Square Peg banner.
