BAD FACE: Bonus Short Added to Free Los Angeles Screening of THE STAIRS on August 10th

As a special bonus to our free Hollywood screening of The Stairs on Tuesday, August 10th, Dread Central has added Latinx actor/artist Daniel Louis Rivas’ nightmarish horror short Bad Face to the scary bill. The movies will play at Hollywood’s Arena Cinelounge Sunset (6464 Sunset Boulevard; 323-924-1644). Doors open at 7:30 pm. Dread Central Editor in Chief Josh Millican will host the festivities. Here’s the story on the pandemic-inspired Bad Face: Dave (director Rivas) is a skittish, germ-phobic courier of illegally obtained vaccines. One night in a sketchy motel room while waiting for his mysterious buyer to arrive, Dave experiences mind-altering, reality-bending symptoms he believes come from the deadly virus.

Bad Face co-stars Andoni Gracia (The Flash) and Nina Kate (Guilty Party). Transgender filmmaker Rebecca Swan (Maskhead, upcoming Creepypasta: The Movie) co-wrote the short with Rivas during the 2020 lockdown. Swan also co-wrote (as Scott Swan) John Carpenter’s two Masters of Horror episodes Cigarette Burns and Pro-Life, as well as Larry Fessenden’s Fear Itself entry Skin and Bones. “Bad Face was a not-so-silent cry for help made with punk rock aesthetics, fueled by the internal and external pandemonium of Covid-mania and the uncertainty of our future,” says Rivas. “It serves as a meditation on humanity’s need for hope under grim circumstances.” A feature film version of Bad Face is currently being developed.
