Linda Blair Has NOT Been Contacted About Returning for the New EXORCIST Trilogy “As of Now”

The biggest horror news of the summer is bound to be Exorcist related. Yesterday, we didn’t just learn that the upcoming sequel from Universal/Blumhouse/Morgan Creek (directed by David Gordon Green) will in fact be a trilogy (with the first film arriving in 2023), but also that Ellen Burstyn will be reprising the role of Chris MacNeil.

Of course, the question now on everyone’s mind is: “Will Linda Blair also return, reprising the role of Regan MacNeil? Blair took to Twitter herself to address the issue with an answer that may disappoint many, while also leaving the door open for possibilities.

“As of now, there has not been any discussions about me participating or reprising my role,” Blair told her Twitter followers. She added that she “wished all those involved the best and I appreciate the loyalty and passion the fans have for The Exorcist and my character.”

Universal and Peacock have acquired worldwide rights to create new IP based on the Exorcist franchise in partnership with Blumhouse and Morgan Creek. Encompassing three films in total, the deal further solidifies the partnership between Universal and Peacock. Along with Universal’s celebrated history with Blumhouse, the deal gives both property and audiences optionality without forgoing the theatrical experience.

Academy-Award® Nominee Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton, One Night In Miami) is set to kick off the fresh new take of the beloved property – a continuation of the quintessential possession horror film.

David Gordon Green (Halloween Kills, Halloween) will direct the first film – reuniting him with Universal and Blumhouse after the success of reviving the Halloween franchise.

Blair was only 14-years-old when The Exorcist, directed by William Friedkin, premiered in 1973. To say that the role had an impact on her life and career would be an understatement! Of course, we’re all hoping Blair will be a part of the next chapters of The Exorcist in some capacity. Maybe someone should launch a petition!
