The Amazon Series DEAD RINGERS Has Added Poppy Liu to The Cast

Dead Ringers is a 1988 cult film starring Jeremy Irons (Watchmen) and directed by the legendary David Cronenberg. Jeremy Irons portrays twin gynecologists Beverly and Elliot Mantle, who take advantage of the fact that no one can tell them apart until their world is wrecked in superior Cronenberg fashion when both brothers fall for the same woman.

Last year Amazon Studios greenlit a reimagining of the Cronenberg film with a gender swapped Rachel Weisz (The Lobster) portraying the twins. Deadline reports that

Dead Ringers is a modern take on Cronenberg’s thriller starring Jeremy Irons, featuring Weisz playing the double lead role of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes, including pushing the boundaries on medical ethics in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s healthcare to the forefront.”

According to Deadline Poppy Liu (Hacks, Better Call Saul) has been tapped to portray Greta, “Beverly and Elliot’s watchful and meticulous house manager who runs their lives with complete efficiency and her own hidden agenda.” Poppy Liu has recently gained critical attention in HBO’s Hacks.

Dead Ringers is produced by Amazon Studios and Annapurna Television.

Weisz, Stacy O’Neil and Alice Birch executive produce, along with Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, and Ali Krug for Annapurna Television, and James G. Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall for Morgan Creek.
