WATCH: Get Trapped By New Trailer For The Japanese CUBE Remake

liminal

Today the official trailer for the Cube is out of Japan and it’s giving off grisly energy galore. Just like Natali’s original film, Yasuhiko Shimizu’s film will feature a colorful cast of characters in a dystopian maze of endless rooms.

I’ve been waiting for a new Cube film for what seems like forever. The original film hails from Canadian filmmaker Vincenzo Natali back in 1997. Cube premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and went onto amass a huge genre following. Two sequels are out there and an American remake is also in the pipeline…

The classic Canadian feature was a gory ride, giving audiences numerous creative deaths. While the Japanese trailer offers lots of scares, we’re not sure how gross it’ll be when stacked up against the original film. But given that Natali is an executive producer on the project, there’s a solid chance we’re in for something nasty. I spy wire slicers…

Synopsis

A mysterious cube. 6 men and women are suddenly trapped in Cube. It’s unclear where this is, why they are trapped, whether there is an exit, whether they can survive, or what the room even is.

If the name Vincenzo Natali doesn’t ring a bell, you’re sure to recognize his handiwork as a director. After the runaway success of the original Cube film, Natali directed a slew of interesting indie Canadian fare like the 2003 comedy Nothing. He would eventually go on to direct big-budget genre titles like Splice and In The Tall Grass. He is also responsible for episodes of NBC’s Hannibal.

Cube hails from Yasuhiko Shimizu and is set for release in Japan on October 22.
