INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE Series Sires Its Lestat
Sam Reid has been officially tapped to play the lead role of Lestat in the upcoming Interview With the Vampire series, Variety reports.
The actor currently stars in the Australian series The Newsreader, an acclaimed drama. He has also appeared in other series like The Hunting, Lambs of God, and The Astronaut Wives Club. His most notable film roles to date include Belle, Anonymous and ‘71.
What’s interesting about this casting is that it could signal a long-term contract for the star. AMC owns the rights to the entire Vampire Chronicles universe, and they may dig deeper. The studio seems to be actively pursuing the franchise from multiple angles. While Interview With The Vampire is the only show in production at the moment, rumours have indicated that other series and films could be in the pipeline for AMC.
Interview with the Vampire is a well-loved gothic horror property dating back to the 1976 Anne Rice novel. It’s since spawned a whole series of books, two films, a stage show, and other various adaptations. Now Interview with the Vampire is back for a large-scale AMC series. The new show will be executively produced, in part, by Anne Rice and her son Christopher Rice.
The original novel centers itself on vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac, who tells the story of his life to a reporter. Anne Rice wrote the story right after the death of her young daughter Michelle, who served as an inspiration for the child-vampire character Claudia.
Interview with the Vampire will span eight episodes and will debut in 2022 on both AMC and AMC Plus.
