Guillermo del Toro and Gris Grimly’s take on the classic tale of Pinocchio was a project we were really excited for around these parts. Talk about two delightfully dark and twisted minds coming together. Alas, the project has been removed from the mythical burner.
Grimly took to his Twitter account last night to break the news:
“Short to the point update on Pinocchio for those inquiring: It appears that this is not the right time for such a superior-adventurous flick.”
He then @replied to a fan:
“There are people like us out there. But they look at numbers. Frankenweenie was a box office failure to them.”
The tweets have since been removed, but a big thanks to Bleeding Cool for nabbing them before they were 86’d. In short, it’s sounding like the under-performance of Frankenweenie (which was kind of awesome by the way) is the culprit that’s keeping this twisted wooden boy from coming to life. That’s not to say that the project is completely dead, but I guess we’ll all just have to wait and see.
