Letter from the Editor: New Teammates Herald Next Chapter at Dread Central!

The horror landscape of today is different than it was when Dread Central first launched 15 years ago. A year and a half of a global pandemic have also changed our industry and our community in ways we could never have expected. It’s a new age with new challenges and new possibilities. So, it makes sense that we’re planning some big changes at Dread Central as we forge our path into the future.

As all of my colleagues are already aware, my wife and I are expecting our first child this October. In advance of my planned paternity leave, we’ve brought in some new blood! Our additions won’t simply be making sure things run smoothly during my absence, they will be spearheading bold initiatives that are destined to take us all in exciting directions.

Mary Beth McAndrews has been hired as our Content Editor. She’ll be planning our editorial strategies while also looking at how Dread Central interacts with our community. Mary Beth has already proven herself to be a valuable member of our community and we’re lucky to have her on our team!

Josh Korngut has been retained to lead our Dread+ initiative. Regular readers of Dread Central already know Josh as the host of the Development Hell podcast. He’s also penned some excellent editorials and even helps me out with daily news. Josh and Dread+ consultant Emily Gagne will look at expanding our coverage into new arenas and incorporating additional creative media content. These savvy Canadians have already proven themselves to be valuable assets to Dread Central and our community at large.

Max Weinstein has been a contributor at Dread Central for almost two years. One of his most notable achievements was the creation and launch of our first annual guide to the “Best Horror Festivals in the World,” published back in December. I’m thrilled to announce that Max has been promoted to News Editor. He’ll be working to deliver the most pertinent stories of the horror news cycle and to open up new avenues of coverage you’ll only find at Dread Central.

Please join me in welcoming and congratulating Mary Beth, Josh, Emily, and Max! I’m sure you’ll be getting to know them all more intimately through their work in the coming weeks, months, and years. As Editor, I have tremendous confidence in them all and can’t wait to see where they steer Dread Central next!

As for me, I’m prepared for my life to change completely when my son arrives in October. Certainly, it will lead to a re-evaluation of my priorities and life goals. While I will be stepping down as Editor in Chief at the time of my hiatus, I will return this winter as Dread Central’s Head Writer/Chief Correspondent. This means I’ll be continuing to bring you editorials, interviews, reviews, and daily news. I’ll also be covering horror screenings and events in Los Angeles as well as reviving some old projects in 2022.

Thank you all for your continued support of Dread Central. You can find me anytime here or on Twitter!
