John Landis Shares His Favorite Werewolf Movies on ‘Post Mortem With Mick Garris’
On their latest episode of Post Mortem with Mick Garris, Dread Central Extended Universe superheroes Mick and Joe present us with two of the most iconic guests the horror genre affords. John Landis and Joe Dante join the pod to discuss the anniversaries of An American Werewolf in London and The Howling, respectfully.

An American Werewolf in London is one of the genre’s most prized titles, and we here at Dread love to celebrate it any chance we can get. (It’s extremely rude how that movie lulls you into comfort before tearing you to shreds… a stone-cold classic.) And don’t even get me talking about The Howling: the quintessential ’80s werewolf moment. The Howling is responsible for an entire sub-genre of werewolf slashers, a true harbinger of culture.
It’s not long before these icons start discussing the making of these landmark movies. But, what they’re really talking about, is the creation of an entire subgenre in horror. It’s also amazing how distinct each of these personalities are when they’re in the same room.
One of the highlights of the episode is when all of the filmmakers discuss their favorite werewolf films. What follows is an incredible list of international titles that I won’t spoil here, however, I will make one exception. On the topic of modern werewolf titles of special note, the first movie John Landis brings to the table is Ginger Snaps.
Ginger Snaps, of course, is the 2000 Canadian coming-of-age horror classic starring Katherine Isabelle and Emily Perkins. Landis enjoys how Karen Walton’s film focuses on a woman’s adolescence; a take that we still so rarely see in werewolf movies today.
