‘Megan is Missing’: Traumatizing Found Footage Shocker To Be Released on Blu-Ray

Megan Is Missing

Released over a decade ago, Michael Goi’s found-footage shocker Megan is Missing still pops up frequently on lists of the most disturbing horror movies ever made. The film enjoyed a resurgence recently when it was “rediscovered” and popularized on TikTok.

Now, Lionsgate is gearing up to release the viral social media hit on Blu-ray for the very first time on October 26th.

Synopsis:
Controversial. Brutal. Disturbing. To describe Megan Is Missing is to describe the outer limits of terror and horror. But there’s no way to tell the story of the disappearance of 14-year-old Megan Stewart and her best friend, Amy Herman — a story taken from video chats, webcam footage, home videos, and news reports — without descending into the very heart of depravity and despair. Notorious on social media, banned in New Zealand, and enhanced by never-before-seen Blu-ray bonus content, Megan Is Missing offers an unflinchingly candid look at the dangerous online world today’s teenagers face — a world that’s every parent’s worst nightmare.

This terrifying cautionary tale from Goi (Mary, American Horror Story) about the dangers of online communication stars Amber Perkins, Rachel Quinn, and Dean Waite. Megan Is Missing will be available on Blu-ray at online retailers for the suggested retail price of $17.99.

Look, we’re part of an industry where hype can be taken for granted. Warnings that a film may be too intense for mainstream horror fans and/or potentially triggering can be regarded as gimmicks. But I’ve seen Megan is Missing and can assure you that this is not the case. Megan is Missing is as excruciating to experience as you’ve heard it is. Don’t expect to “enjoy” this film like you would a typical genre offering–even one advertised as “extreme”. In my opinion, watching Megan is Missing should be considered a test of endurance.
