‘Hellraiser’: Producer Hints At “Jaw-Dropping” New Footage From Hulu Film
Hollywood heavyweight David S. Goyer (writer/producer of Blade) is teasing horror fans about what to expect from the forthcoming Hulu Hellraiser reboot. The producer has called the footage from the new film “jaw-dropping” and makes the new Pinhead vehicle sound as gorgeous as it sounds nasty. Seems like we’ve got all the ingredients for a classic Hellraiser installment.
Goyer has been around the genre block a few times, including a stint producing on all three Nolan-directed Dark Knight films. The new gender-swapped Hellraiser film is currently being helmed by director David Bruckner. You might remember Bruckner’s name from when he gifted us The Night House and Netflix’s The Ritual. Definitely an exciting choice to bring Hellraiser back to life.
The Bruckner film is currently scheduled for an unspecified 2022 release.
As you’re well aware, the original Hellraiser film was and written and directed by Clive Barker in 1987. The classic gothic horror phantasmagoria was based on Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart. Both the novella and the film revolved around nightmarish begins from a different world, named Cenobites, who are summoned to our dimension by a mysterious puzzle box. A Rubik’s cube, this is not. The original film featured horror icon Doug Bradley as the head Cenobite aka Pinhead.
Dread Central recently broke the news about the film’s production being underway in Serbia, so the new quote from Goyer about the footage beginning to emerge has us extra excited. Seems like this new update on a legacy franchise is really coming to life sooner than later, and we stan.
Here’s what Goyer had to say to Collider:
“I will say that we went back to the original novella for the source material, we’re really honoring Clive’s work. I can say that David Bruckner is a genius. It’s filming right now. The footage is terrifying and amazing, and the Cenobites are jaw-dropping.”
