‘Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin’ Gets Release Date and Teaser Trailer
It all started in 2007 with Oren Peli’s film Paranormal Activity, a tale about a young couple haunted by an unknown presence. Over a decade later, the franchise still hasn’t loosened its grip on the hearts of found footage lovers. Now, Paramount+ has announced that the seventh film of the franchise, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, is coming exclusively to the streaming service on Friday, October 29. Talk about perfect timing for the spooky season.
The announcement also came with a trailer for the film (finally). Check it out below:
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin is not a sequel to the events of the latest film in the franchise. Instead, it has been described as a reboot, pushing the series in a new direction. Perhaps Toby will no longer be the spirit that haunts our dreams. The specifics of the plot are still being kept under wraps. For now, we only have the trailer to offer us any clues about what to expect. We’re getting cult vibes, and we’re not mad about it.
The reboot is a long time coming, with Paramount and Blumhouse announcing their involvement with the project in 2019. The film was initially slated for a March 2021 theatrical release, but was delayed due to the pandemic.
Tanya Ghailes, the CPO of ViacomCBS Streaming, said of the film:
“A new Paranormal Activity from Paramount Players should bring fans an unexpected reimagining of the beloved horror franchise — We’ll also be launching a documentary on the making of the Paranormal Activity feature. Both of which will be coming to the service in time for Halloween.”
Paramount+ will also release a documentary about the making of the entire franchise alongside Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin.
Christopher Landon, who is no stranger to the franchise, returns to pen the script. William Eubank, director of Underwater, sits in the director’s chair for the series reimagining. Emily Bader, Roland Buck III, Dan Lippert, and Henry Ayers-Brown star in the film.
