‘The Fall Of The House Of Usher’: Mike Flanagan Tapped For Edgar Allen Poe-Inspired Limited Series
Mike Flanagan, modern master of horror, is staying booked and busy. It’s been announced he’s starting another project with Netflix, right on the tail of his latest series Midnight Mass. This time, he’ll be helming a miniseries based on Edgar Allen Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher.
Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher is a short story published in 1893. The tale follows an unnamed narrator who visits the last two remaining members of the Usher family. What ensues is a horrifying plot about family, legacy, and identity. But this project will involve more than just this short story. While Netflix didn’t release any details, they did reveal that this series will be based on multiple works by Poe.
The Fall of the House of Usher is slated to be an eight-part limited series. And no, it is not related to any of Flanagan’s previous work.
Flanagan is no stranger to adapting works of horror fiction. He created and directed Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, based on the book by Shirley Jackson, as well as The Haunting of Bly Manor, based on Henry James’ Turning of the Screw. He’s also currently working on a series based on Christopher Pike’s YA horror novel, The Midnight Club.

The director has a knack for capturing what makes those works truly scary. Suffice to say we’re excited to see what he does with this source material.
Flanagan created The Fall Of The House Of Usher. He’ll also direct and executive produce the project. His Intrepid Pictures partner Trevor Macy, as well as Emmy Grinwis and Michael Fimognari, will also executive produce. Intrepid Pictures’ Melinda Nishioka will co-executive produce the project.
Fimognari and Flanagan will each direct four episodes.
The Fall of the House of Usher marks the fifth series for Intrepid Pictures under its overall deal following The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and upcoming series The Midnight Club.
