‘Evil Dead Rise’: Director Announces Its Blood-Drenched Shoot Has Wrapped
About two years have passed since Sam Raimi announced that Evil Dead Rise was in development. Now, at long last, we’ve learned that the fifth installment in the Evil Dead series is finished filming and ready to be cut.
Last night, director Lee Cronin shared a sanguinary selfie and other snapshots to confirm that Evil Dead Rise had concluded its New Zealand-based shoot. “8 months, 1 Covid Lockdown, 6,500 litres of blood, and more memories than my brain can even process. That is a wrap on #EvilDeadRise. Thank you New Zealand, it’s been a blast. Time to head home and cut this beast together,” Cronin said on Twitter.
At the time of its release in 2013, Fede Álvarez’s Evil Dead purportedly set the record for most fake blood used in a movie, with about 70,000 gallons of the red stuff. Evil Dead Rise may not approach those numbers, but 6,500 liters is still a whole lot and a welcome indication of an impending gorefest for fans of the franchise.

Due to COVID restrictions, Cronin and his team halted production until June of this year. In July, when cameras were rolling again, Deadline reported that the film will take place in Los Angeles and follows two sisters who reunite after a long time spent apart from one another. At the time of their reunion, they come across a strange book that unleashes flesh-invading demonic entities.
Alyssa Sutherland stars as the older sister, Ellie, alongside Lily Sullivan, who plays her younger sister, Beth. Additional cast members include Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence), Morgan Davies (The End), and Nell Fisher (Splendid Isolation).
Evil Dead Rise will hit HBO Max in 2022.
