‘Scream’: Scary New Image Puts Jenna Ortega In Peril

One of the most exciting and controversial elements of making a new Scream film was the hiring of new directors. Wes Craven was imperative to the success of the original series, so when Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not) signed on, they knew the gravity of the situation right away.

With that said, the directors of the upcoming Scream installment are not messing around. In a recent conversation with Empire, the creative duo shared the importance Wes Craven played in their path to becoming filmmakers.

“This movie is a love letter in every way,” shared Bettinelli-Olpin. “For both of us, Scream would be on not just our top five movies that we love, but movies that shaped who we are as filmmakers.”

It was then a top priority for the creatives to bring back the original cast. Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette were all brought back into the ring.

“There was no version of this story, for us, that would work without the three of them,” said Gillett. “They are the beating heart of these movies.”

One of the fresh faces coming to the series is burgeoning scream queen Jenna Ortega. After a well-received role in The Babysitter: Killer Queen, the newcomer quickly signed on to play the title role in Tim Burton’s upcoming Wednesday series.

Scream features an exciting cast of faces new and familiar alike. Other new cast members include rising stars Jack Quaid (TV’s The Boys) and Dylan Minette (TV’s 13 Reasons Why).

What do you think of the first Scream image? I can’t wait to see what updates Paramount shares next. Are you psyched about the new sequel arriving in January? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram! Dread Central is now on Google News!
