‘The Simpsons’ Go Dark With Frosty ‘Fargo’-Themed Episodes

The Simpsons are back with a two-episode Fargo-inspired parody of prestige television.

A spokesperson for the series is calling the arc a “dark, twisted ‘Fargo’ story,” referring to the hit tv adaptation of the 1996 cult classic. Variety spoke with the talent behind the episode and has shared the trailer for “A Serious Flanders” which airs Sunday.

Simsons executive producer Matt Sellman details the story:

“We wanted to do all the tricks that these cool streaming shows get to do: Flashbacks, crazy time-jumps, the feeling that anyone might die,” Selman said. “It’s all the tricks of the trade, for a semi-pretentious but also very cool kind of story. We have scenes that build tension or make fun of the idea of building tension.”

There is an impressive arsenal of celebrity guest appearances for the two-parter, even for Simpsons standards. Succession star Brian Cox guest stars next to Cristin Milioti (Fargo), Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood), and Jessica Paré (Mad Men).

‘A Serious Flanders’ Part 1 airs this Sunday, November 7th.
Synopsis: “When a ruthless debt collector comes to Springfield, Homer and Ned’s lives are sucked into the artfully violent world of prestige TV.”

A Serious Flanders’ Part 2 airs November 14th.
Synopsis: “Uff-da! Things for Ned and Homer go from bad to gosh-darn worse in the stunning conclusion of this SIMPFLIX prestige crime thriller.”

“Both half hours are like six episodes of a six-episode series,” Selman also shares. “Stuff happens we won’t stick with, so think of this from a different universe, with a different tone — I think we did a good job of telling an interesting dramatic Flanders story.”
