The Most Messed Up Endings In Horror, According To Reddit

And they all lived happily after… said no one on this list. While everyone loves a happy ending, horror is one of the genres usually brave enough to buck the trend and instead go for full-on catastrophe. Of course, this isn’t the case for lots of horror titles, but it is for the movies Reddit has selected as their most disturbing, bummer and unfriendly endings in the history of horror.

When it comes to a bummer endings in horror, there are always the usual suspects. Of course you’ve got The Mist, one of the most remembered and startling endings a horror movie has ever gifted us. You may or may not be aware, but Stephen King’s original novella had a very different ending than the one seen in Frank Darapont’s brooding adaptation.

While The Mist is an obvious addition to the following list, there are a few titles I was happily surprised to see make the cut. For one, the under-discussed Arlington Road feels justly appropriate, as do better loved classics like The Descent and Wolf Creek.

If you’re in the mood for absolutely ruining your holiday weekend, I suggest renting a few of these titles. Because if this Christmas isn’t already as messed up as it’s gonna get, I’d be surprised as hell.

Here are the horror movies with the darkest endings, according to Reddit:

  1. Arlington Road
  2. Eden Lake
  3. Martyrs
  4. The Butterfly Effect
  5. Source Code
  6. The Descent
  7. The Mist
  8. Funny Games
  9. Wolf Creek
  10. The Autopsy of Jane Doe

Lastly, how do you feel about the above list of bummer horror endings? Which titles would scrub and what would you replace it with? Let me know on Twitter via @joshkorngut. I’m always around to chat all things twisted horror.
