‘Insidious 5’: Everything We Know Right Now

The Insidious franchise is back after four years of resting dormant, and 2022 seems to be the year she rises. You just can’t keep a good ghoul down.

While the Insidious brand of campy and spooky is not everyone’s very specific cup of tea, I personally cannot get enough of the gothic house of horrors this series has served up outing after outing. The way it also quickly became a Lin Shaye vehicle guaranteed my interest, even if the quality has slouched slightly over the years.

Today we are taking a dive into everything we know about the mysterious fifth entry of The Further. From creatives to release, here is everything we know about Insidious: Chapter 5!

The cast

It seems like the Lambert family are back in action with the next Insidious chapter. While we have only a couple of cast members currently confirmed for the highly anticipated sequel, there’s still no word if Lin Shaye will make her absolutely necessary return. The icon and angel did have a few words to share on the topic while speaking with Coming Soon:

“It was a really beautiful arc for me to find as the character and in the storyline.” Lin continued with saying, “now it’s in my memory and I would love it if there was another one. I’m good with whatever, if we come back, I’m in The Further this time, so that will be different.”

In terms of announced casting, both Patrick Wilson and Ty Simpkins have signed the dotted line to return as Josh and his son Dalton Lambert.

The story

All the way back in 2020, we caught word that long-time James Wan collaborator Patrick Wilson had agreed to direct and star in the new Insidious feature. This will be the first time Patrick Wilson has ever directed.

However, after appearing in the first two films, Wilson knows a thing or two about this fan favorite franchise. While speaking with GameSpot in October 2020, Wilson teased the story, and how it will incorporate the return of Dalton more than a full decade later. Here’s what Wilson had to say:

“I just latched on to watching Dalton go to college and what does that do, watching a young man go to college and all the new experiences and feeling like an outsider and trying to fit in? And he’s got this ability that he doesn’t even know he has of being an astral projectors–being a traveler. Are we still hypnotized? Is there still that trend so what does that do to your life? What does that do to your marriage? And then what does that do from a father and son relationship?”

The release

While there are no specifics about when we will be privy to Elise and friend’s next spooky romp, there has been some sort of confirmation from Daddy Blum himself. The big cheese over at Blumhouse reported to Digital Spy that the all new Insidious chapter will be unveiled “sometime in 2022.” Keeping it vague, babe.

Historically, the franchise has never had a Halloween release. That’s possibly because of the heavy-hitting October competition. Or maybe it’s the fact that horror movies actually perform better in September? With Blumhouses’ own Halloween Kills landing during our next spooky season, I wouldn’t be surprise if we get a September drop for Insidious 5, not unlike the first two films in the series.

Lastly, how do you feel about the upcoming Insidious instalment? Will you be checking it out later this year, or will you leave this entry to rest in The Further? Let me know on Twitter via @joshkorngut. I’m always available to chat all things Lin Shaye!
