The ‘Chucky’ TV Series Is Now Nominated At The 33rd GLAAD Media Awards

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation recently announced the nominees for their 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards. And this year, horror is getting some love. Maybe most excitingly, the famous organization has nominated the first season of Don Mancini’s Chucky in the category of Outstanding New TV Series!

“Media can create positive change and this year’s nominees represent powerful projects, stories, and
creators that positively shifted culture and enlightened audiences with new and impactful LGBTQ stories,” GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement on their official site. “There are more nominees this year than ever before, highlighting a growing landscape of LGBTQ visibility, and serving as a reminder to the critical role that film, television, music, journalism, and other forms of media can play in growing LGBTQ acceptance in the face of ongoing attacks against our community.”

Additionally, Yellowjackets joins Chucky in the category of Outstanding New TV Series. Of the newly minted container GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis had this to share:

“The introduction of the Outstanding New TV Series category recognizes the shows and creators getting LGBTQ inclusion right from the beginning, and encourages other showrunners to include LGBTQ characters and stories that enlighten and entertain in new projects.”

Yellowjackets and Chucky are not the only horror projects to see some love at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards. Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy has also been nominated, in the category of Outstanding TV Movie. Very cool.
