New ‘Mother Schmuckers’ Trailer Would Make John Waters Proud
In the trailer for the upcoming film Mother Schmuckers, two boys are reprimanded by their mother for frying a turd in the kitchen. I’ll give you a second to go ahead and reread that sentence. For as disgusting as it is, it’s also the perfect way to show viewers what exactly this movie is about: pure and utter filth.
And we love filth at Dread Central! Filth is important because filth is everywhere. So why avoid it? Directors Harpo Guit and Lenny Guit embraced that ideology, helmed by our lord and savior John Waters, in making Mother Schmuckers.
The film follows Issachar and Zabulon, two brothers in their twenties, who are supremely stupid and never bored, as madness is part of their daily lives. When they lose their mother’s beloved dog, they have 24 hours to find it—or she’ll kick them out.
Mother Schmuckers premiered in 2021 at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to play at Fantastic Fest, Nightstream, and more. Critics either loved it or hated it, which makes sense for a film such as this. Suffice to say, it’s got the makings of a cult classic.

There really are no words that can describe the film, so this trailer is the perfect taste, pun intended, for this off-the-rails comedy. Plus it’s really all about a dog, which is always a win in our books.
Maxi Delmelle, Harpo Guit, Claire Bodson, Fresco, and Mathieu Amalric star in Mother Schmuckers.
This beautiful pile of filth comes to theatres on March 4 and to on demand on March 15.
