The 10 Most Traumatic Movies Of All Time, According To Reddit

There’s no arguing the fact that horror is a genre packed full of dark and disturbing titles. In fact, horror fans are likely engaging with some of the most upsetting story selections per capita of all cinephiles on the market. But, contrary to popular belief, horror is not the subcategory of film that messes up audiences the most. Interestingly enough, according to a recent Reddit thread by user Trufk, horror barely even scratches the surface when it comes to genuinely traumatic film experiences.

So which genre takes the cake in terms of absolutely atrociously upsetting assaults on the mind? Drama, of course. From anime films depicting the fallout of the Second World War to an American tale about homeless youth who have scary experiences with addiction, here is Reddit’s list of the most unbearably upsetting films in the iTunes store.

Check out the top 10 truly traumatic movies of all time, according to Reddit:

I don’t know about you, but I find the horror titles to make the cut to be somewhat unexpected. Event Horizon, as darkly cerebral as it is, has never really sent me into a K Hole of despair like some other spooky titles have. Which horror titles do you think could have made the list in lieu of the ones already there?

More importantly, I’m curious to know which of the aforementioned films you’ve seen. Do they deserve a spot on this definitive list? Let me know on Twitter via @joshkorngut. I’m always around to chat about all things upsetting cinema.
