From the Press Release
AFFIRM Films, a division of Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA), and Cinematic wrapped principal photography of THE REMAINING on March 18th in Wilmington, NC.
The horror thriller, based on biblical accounts of the end times, is written and directed by Casey La Scala (Donnie Darko). The film stars Alexa Vega (Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D), Shaun Sipos (Texas Chainsaw 3D), Johnny Pacar (Flight 29 Down), Italia Ricci (“Terminales”), Bryan Dechart (Step Up 3D) and newcomer Liz E. Morgan. THE REMAINING is produced by Brad Luff (Urban Legends), Marc Bienstock (Quarantine 2: Terminal) and La Scala.
THE REMAINING is an action-packed horror thriller about a group of close-knit friends that come together to celebrate the marriage of Skylar (Vega) and Dan (Dechart). The group is enjoying the festivities when tragedy strikes. The wedding party is besieged by a series of catastrophic events which turns the celebration into a life-and-death struggle. The young group is desperately scrambling for refuge and self-preservation while an enemy they never knew existed unleashes its wrath against those remaining alive. They must understand what is happening around them and why and find a way to survive together in a new world of death and destruction.
Director Casey La Scala said, “I wanted to create a story that captures the imagination of the mainstream and faith based community. THE REMAINING captures both by centering around finding faith and redemption during the extreme and horrific circumstances surrounding the biblical accounts of the end times”.
Rounding out La Scala’s team are cinematographer Doug Emmett (Paranormal Activity 4) and production designer Brian Stultz (Iron Man 3).
Brad Luff and AFFIRM Films Vice President Rich Peluso collaborated on 2011’s SOUL SURFER and are working together on THE REMAINING with similar goals: to tell a compelling story that will entertain a broad audience while also connecting strongly to those seeking spiritually rich content. “I’m thrilled to be working with AFFIRM Films again and excited about the quality story-telling and experienced team we brought together,” said Luff.
THE REMAINING is scheduled for a 2014 release, and AFFIRM Films is putting together its marketing and promotional team now. “THE REMAINING is a horrific yet beautiful story of what life could look like in the hours after the world as we know comes to an end. Casey La Scala, Brad Luff and Marc Bienstock have done a fabulous job of bringing this story to life, and I’m excited to see the impact it will have,” states Peluso.
