The 12 Best Opening Title Sequences In Horror Television [Video]
There’s really nothing like a perfectly crafted opening title sequence. When done well, these brief moments can tell you everything you need to know about a show’s tone in just a minute or two. And, when a series really blows a title card out of the water, it can even end up outperforming the show itself. Today I’m exploring the twelve moodiest and altogether best opening title cards in the history of horror television.
From the dread-inducing swing set of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? opening, to the analog alternative 90s vibes of the Yellowjackets title card, these artful credits are the best horror TV has to offer. Full disclosure, there were a few not-quite-horror-enough series that nearly made the cut but were ultimately left out. Most importantly, the Six Feet Under intro deserves a very loud honourable mention. I’ve also limited this list to only one season of American Horror Story. You’re welcome.
Here are twelve of the best opening credit scenes in the history of horror TV.
Are You Afraid Of The Dark
The Haunting Of Bly Manor
True Blood
American Horror Story: Asylum
Twin Peaks
Yellowjackets
Scream Queens
Tales From the Crypt
The Twilight Zone
The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror VIII
Goosebumps
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
Lastly, what do you think? Which other shows should’ve made the cut but didn’t? Make sure to let me know on Twitter via @joshkorngut. I’m always around to talk all things horror TV.
