‘Mad God’: Shudder Will Stream Phil Tippett’s Mind-Bending Animated Epic [Watch]
The horror streaming giant Shudder has officially landed the rights to the critically acclaimed animated feature Mad God, Deadline reports. The animated fantasia of horrors hails from Academy Award-winning animator and FX guru Phil Tippett. Mad God took the visionary over thirty years to produce, and it finally hits theaters and the AMC Network operated streamer on June 16th.
Tippett first began working on Mad God all the back in 1990 directly after he finished production on Robocop 2. He was then forced to pause work on the project to produce the iconic dinosaur effects on Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park.
Decades later the effects master took to Kickstarter to finally finish work on Mad God. Ten years after that and Mad God is finally finished. Mad God is an experimentally animated horror show which saw its World Premiere at the Locarno Film Festival on August 5th 2021.
Tippett is responsible for the special effects on some the most important blockbusters ever produced. He has contributed to the original Star Wars trilogy, Starship Troopers, The Twilight Saga and is the effects captain behind The Mandalorian.

The teaser showcases a character in a gas mask cautiously patrolling a dangerous and terrifying world. There are monsters, zombies and all sorts of disturbing imagery you best make sure to keep away from the kids. This uncanny valley of madness is going to rock your world.
Mad God premiered at Locarno on August 5th where Tippett was the recipient of the Vision Award Ticinomoda. This was exciting news for the director, who saw the full-length version of the project on the big screen for the first time after a thirty year development.
