‘The Crow’: Bill Skarsgard To Star In New Reboot
After ages locked up in development hell, it seems like the reboot of The Crow is finally happening. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pennywise himself Bill Skarsgård will star in a brand new film directed by Rupert Sanders. The iconic revenge-fuelled thriller originally starred Brandon Lee, who tragically lost his life after an infamous on-set accident. Reportedly budgeted at around $50 million, it seems as though this reboot is finally ready to take to the sky.
The first film in The Crow franchise was released in 1994 and was followed by three sequels. This IP began with “Crow”, an independent 1980s comic created by James O’Barr. The comic followed the story of a man who is murdered alongside his fiancé, but soon rises from the grave with violence on the brain.
Skarsgård, most famous for playing Pennywise in the recent iterations of Stephen King’s It, is now playing Eric Draven, a man set on bloody revenge in the name of love. The script for the new film is being written by King Richard scribe Zach Baylin who is fresh off of an Academy-award nomination.
A history of violence
As mentioned, this is far from the first time a resurrection of The Crow franchise has been attempted. Blade director Stephen Norrington was once attached with Luke Evans rumored to take on the lead role. More recently, Aquaman himself Jason Momoa was attached to take flight as The Crow under the direction of Corin Hardy (The Nun).
The reboot follows sequels The Crow: City of Angels which saw release in 1996 with new star Vincent Perez. The Crow: Salvation and The Crow: Wicked Prayer were subsequently released in 2000 and 2005 to diminishing returns. Now the series is back for a whole new generation of genre fans. And honestly, we can’t wait to see what Skarsgård and director Rupert Sanders bring to the project.
