A couple of weeks ago we were one of the few sites to get behind the worthwhile movement to get classic Godzilla actor Akira Takarada a role in the new Godzilla movie, which is now filming in Canada. We made some noise. You made some noise. Well, guess what?
Below you’ll find a photo from the set featuring Mr. Takarada and director Gareth Edwards. The icon has himself a role. No word on how big it will be, but wow. Talk about a gift to fans. Pat yourselves, on the back, kids. You’ve done well. And a special congrats to both Mr. Takarada and the fine folks who run the Legendary Pictures: Cast Akira Takarada in the new Godzilla Movie Facebook Group, who have been at it tirelessly for well over a year now. Awesome news!
Thank you, Legendary and Gareth Edwards, for caring enough to make this happen.
Gareth Edwards is directing the film from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher are serving as executive producers alongside Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Richard T. Jones, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, David Strathairn, Juliette Binoche, and Ken Watanabe star.
A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, Godzilla will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd. Legendary Pictures is a division of Legendary Entertainment.
Slated to open on May 16, 2014, the film is expected to be presented in 3D.
