‘Resident Evil’ Series Trailer Reveals Gory, Zombie-Filled Mayhem [Watch]
Legendary video game Resident Evil has spawned quite an expansive franchise. From Paul W.S. Anderson’s polarizing films to an animated series, the zombie-filled world controlled by the Umbrella Corporation has been brought to life across mediums. Recently, Netflix announced they’re releasing the first-ever Resident Evil live-action TV series. And they finally released a teaser trailer.
The first game Resident Evil was released in 1996 by Japanese game developer Capcom. Now, there are ten games in the main series, plus 15 spin-off console games. And that doesn’t include the remakes. The series takes place in a world ravaged by the T-Virus, created by the villainous pharmaceutical company Umbrella. Those infected are essentially zombies. But they’re not the only ones ruling the post-apocalyptic landscape; mutant animals and terrifying creatures also lurk in the shadows.
So how does the series fit into the franchise canon? Read the synopsis below:
Year 2036: 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.
Jade Wesker is the daughter of Albert Wesker, a legacy character in the franchise and a main antagonist. He appears in both the games and W.S. Anderson’s films trying to bring about the end of the human race. In the Resident Evil series, Lance Reddick plays Wesker in a role that suggests perhaps a more tender side to the villain. Jade Wesker, however, is a new character created for the series.

Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gossatti, and Turlough Convery star in Resident Evil alongside Reddick.
Resident Evil premieres on Netflix on July 14, 2022.
