‘Crimes of the Future’ Prosthetics Team Black Spot FX Are Getting Real Messy [Video]
Today we sit down with gore gurus Alexandra Anger and Monica Pavez to discuss their shocking cinematic creations. The prosthetic makeup artists and technicians are the brains behind Black Spot FX, a Toronto-based effects company responsible for the nastiness within David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future and the cult horror television series Slasher.
After meeting David Cronenberg on the set of Slasher: Flesh and Blood, Black Spot FX were hired for his viral short film The Death of David Cronenberg. The grandaddy of the grotesque was so impressed with their work, he then hired them to create the outlandish effects for his latest feature Crimes of the Future.
While Crimes of the Future received multiple walkouts at its Cannes debut, it also received seven-minute standing ovation. The new Cronenberg joint showcases a gory autopsy sequence, people who orgasm from the act of licking open wounds, and even features a man covered in ears. Someone give these two an Oscar please.
