‘Insidious’ Franchise OG Returns for Patrick Wilson’s New Film

Insidious Blumhouse

James Wan’s first Insidious film boasted a stellar cast featuring Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey, and Lin Shaye. Since then, three films have followed, creating another bonafide spooky franchise from Wan and frequent collaborator Leigh Whannell. Now, we’re getting a fifth Insidious film with Wilson now taking the director’s chair. And we’ve just learned via Deadline that Byrne is set to return!

She is set to appear alongside Wilson and Ty Simpkins, who play her husband and son, respectively. Sinclair Daniel, Peter Dager, and Hiam Abbass were also announced as new cast members.

Check out the full synopsis for the film below:

Set ten years after the end of Insidious 2, Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) heads east to drop his son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) off at an idyllic, ivy-covered university. However, Dalton’s college dream becomes a nightmare when the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both.

Scott Teems (Halloween Kills) wrote Insidious 5 based on a story by Whannell.

The first film was made with a small $1.5 million budget and went on to gross over $99 million worldwide. The fourth film in the series, Insidious: The Last Key, earned $167 million worldwide.

Insidious 5 is scheduled to hit theaters via Sony Pictures’s Screen Gems on July 7, 2023.
