Everything We Know About ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey Horror

The news that beloved literary character Winnie the Pooh is slated to appear in a horror feature is simultaneously fascinating and horrifying. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is a rather unconventional idea. But therein lies the appeal.

Dread Central first broke news about the project in May. Since then, the film has proven to be divisive and controversial, leading to a frenzy of media coverage and polarizing opinions being plastered around the Internet.

Following the initial announcement, a series of new developments have been uncovered. So, with that in mind, we have put together a roundup compiling everything we know to date about Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.

The Film Will be Unapologetically Violent

Rather than the cuddly Pooh Bear and Piglet of yesteryear, the upcoming feature will reimagine Pooh and Piglet as bloodthirsty killers abandoned by their friend Christopher Robin. Piglet and Pooh’s rage (and lack of a steady supply of vittles) eventually leads the friends to turn feral and feast on their pal Eeyore. Yikes!

The Filmmakers May be Targeting a Winter 2022 Release

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey director Rhys Frake-Waterfield took to Facebook to field questions about the project. And when the topic of a proposed release date came up, the creator responded with ‘~Dec.’

Based on that reply, we’ve concluded that the goal is for the film to bow before audiences later this year. But with the project still in post-production and no formal announcement regarding a distribution deal, that target could potentially be pushed out and is likely just an estimate.

Though no deal has been struck at this stage, Frake-Waterfield did disclose (via an exclusive interview with Dread) that there has been a great deal of interest from distributors eager to release the film. So, stay tuned to the site for more on a release strategy as we uncover it.

The Creative Team is Already Considering the Possibility of a Sequel

Frake-Waterfield tells us that he and his collaborators have “loads of quirky ideas” for a sequel. He then went on to say that, should a follow-up effort come to fruition, he’d like to make the sequel “even crazier and go even more extreme”.

Considering Blood and Honey will feature Piglet holding a woman down while Pooh drives over her head, I am quite curious to see how Frake-Waterfield plans to top that…

Not all of Winnie the Pooh’s Friends are in the Public Domain

Knowing that, we don’t expect to see Gopher getting in on the carnage at this juncture. The lovable rodent was not an original character and was added to the Pooh universe by Disney in 1966. His first appearance was in the film Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree

Nuts and Bolts

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is being produced by Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios. In addition to being at the helm, Frake-Waterfield will also be producing along with Scott Jeffrey. ITN’s Stuart Alson is serving as the project’s executive producer.

Craig David Dowsett will play Pooh Bear; Chris Cordell will feature as Piglet; and Nikolai Leon has been cast as Pooh’s human companion, Christopher Robin

Natasha Tosini, Amber Doig-Thorne, Richard D. Myers, Maria Taylor, and Simon Ellis are all slated to play human characters not related to the storybooks.

The Winnie the Pooh character was created by author A.A Milne and illustrator E. H. Shepard. The beloved bear first appeared in the 1924 children’s poetry book, When We Were Very Young. Initially, Pooh was called Edward Bear. But the name was later changed to Winnie the Pooh. As they say, the rest is history.
