Are you ready for some Stephen King spooky season excitement? Good, because today we scored the first trailer for Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, the new Netflix film based on the chilling King story of the same name. First published in the fiction collection If It Bleeds, the story concerns a young boy (Jaeden Martell) who befriends an older, reclusive billionaire (Donald Sutherland) and finds himself able to communicate with him from the grave via the iPhone that was buried with him upon his passing. Watch the trailer below.
Ryan Murphy is finally teaming back up with Jason Blum to produce the adaptation for Netflix. Together they have tapped filmmaker John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) to write and direct. It will be the fourth Stephen King film produced by the streamer after Gerald’s Game, 1922, and In the Tall Grass.
In the film, when Craig, a young boy living in a small town (Martell) befriends Mr. Harrigan, an older, reclusive billionaire (Sutherland), the two begin to form an unlikely bond over their love of books and reading. But when Mr. Harrigan sadly passes away, Craig discovers that not everything is dead and gone and strangely finds himself able to communicate with his friend from the grave through the iPhone in this supernatural coming-of-age story that shows that certain connections are never lost.
Based on the short story by Stephen King, Mr. Harrigan’s Phone is directed and written by John Lee Hancock and produced by Ryan Murphy, Jason Blum and Carla Hacken. Joe Tippett, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Cyrus Arnold, Colin O’Brien, Thomas Francis Murphy and Peggy J. Scott also co-star.
