The Directors of ‘Final Destination 6’ Got The Job With This Unbelievable Zoom Prank
The Hollywood Reporter recently announced that Final Destination 6 has found its directors. Filmmakers Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the team behind the 20818 superhero horror Freaks, nabbed the gig and not just because of their filmography.
See, Lipovsky and Stein gave the interview of the century. According to the Hollywood Reporter announcement, the directors put together “a Zoom call to end all Zoom calls” during their final pitch meeting with New Line Cinemas for the franchise reboot.
The meeting took place over Zoom, of course, with a burning fireplace behind the duo. As the meeting came to a close, the flames leaped into the air and set the mantel ablaze. It’s everyone’s worst Zoom nightmare. As Lipovsky and Stein put out the flames and the tension in the virtual room dissipated, a “whizzing ceiling fan broke off and flew down, decapitating one of the filmmakers.” Obviously, these two understood the assignment. What better way to sell yourself for the new Final Destination than a “live” decapitation?
Lipovsky and Stein pulled off the stunt with some prerecorded footage and effects work. Kudos to a seamless transition in the ever-glitchy world of Zoom.
Obviously their dedication to the bit paid off as they’re now slated to take on the deadly franchise. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the core premise remains the same: those who cheat Death are picked off one by one in increasingly bizarre ways. Shout out to the Final Destination 2 log scene that’s traumatized us all.
Craig Perry, the original franchise producer, is producing with Sheila Hanahan Taylor. Jon Watts is also producing alongside Dianne McGunigle.
