The music world suffered a shocking loss today as Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman has passed away at the all too young age of just 49 due to liver failure. Read on for details and some words from his surviving bandmates.
Sadly Hanneman hadn’t been a touring member of the iconic metal band since 2011, when he contracted necrotizing fasciitis (the flesh-eating disease).
The band issued the following statement via their Facebook page:
Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.
Our Brother Jeff Hanneman, May He Rest In Peace (1964 – 2013)
We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to offer our sincerest of condolences to Jeff’s friends, family, and constituents. Thanks for helping to make Metal what it is, amigo. Keep on rockin’, brother.
