17 Celebrity Halloween Costumes to Get You in the Spooky Spirit
There’s a fine line with celebrity Halloween costumes. Are they really fans of the genre or accidentally revealing that they’re posers? Additionally, if a costume is too overtly sexy to even technically qualify as a legitimate entry, it’s immediately tossed out. In all of these examples below, we wanted selections that truly inspire you to make something incredible on your own. Not all of us have a glam team out our ready after all.
Here at Dread Central, we wanted to highlight the celebs that represent the horror genre in their filmography and in their constant support of the space. Or, celebrities and influencers that go out of their way to highlight and celebrate the incredible work of makeup artists and practical effects technicians everywhere. Well, mostly the ones based in the Los Angeles area, let’s be real.
The list below highlights new horror icons like Emma Roberts, superstars in music like Lil Nas X and the fabulously fluid Harry Styles, to K-Pop phenoms BLACKPINK and genre staples like the one and only Joe Bob Briggs.
Instead of doom scrolling, try broom scrolling below—a term I’m coining and copyrighting. But you can use it if you want. Be sure and tag @DreadCentral with your over-the-top costumes! We may even update this post when new celebrity costumes start to drop closer to Halloween.
Jamie Lee Curtis Pays Homage to Her Family Legacy
There wasn’t a better costume and breakout moment at the premiere of 2018’s Halloween. Jamie Lee Curtis recreating her mother Janet Leigh’s look from Psycho is everything.
Vamp out with Lil Nas X
I’m not sure if Lil Nas X is channeling Grace Jones from Vamp in this photo, but I’m here for it anyway. Dead sexy.
Addams Family with Chrissy Teigen
This is when you know you have an amazing wife. Just look at John Legend’s expression here. This was definitely not his idea. We can’t wait to see what Chrissy Teigen is rocking this year.
BLACKPINK’s Lisa and Jisoo
Full disclosure. My niece got me into listening to BLACKPINK and now I can’t stop. It’s hard not to be an even bigger fan after seeing Lisa as the giant doll from Squid Game.
Kyle Maclachlan as Kale
This seems like a very Mayor of Portlandia moment. Definitely a good idea though, Kyle, to eat some greens along with all of that black coffee from Double R Diner in Twin Peaks.
Lil Nas X Shall Not Be Named
More Lil Nas X is never a bad thing. How can you not include this incredible prosthetics work from NYC-based FX artist Kelly Harris? Don’t dare say his name.
Harry Styles Clowning
If you and your teenage spawn couldn’t afford to see Harry Styles for Harryween, at least you can marvel at this incredible drapery work wrapped around Harry and his unbelievable live band.
Ariana Grande Enters The Twilight Zone
Ariana Grande with the old-school callback to “The Masks” episode from The Twilight Zone! Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. Props to Grande for one of the best Halloween costumes ever.
Patrick Starrr and His Brother as Shrek and Fiona
Not aware of makeup artist and influencer, Patrick Starr (neither was I, admittedly)? This Shrek and Fiona makeup is truly next level though. Shoutouts and bow-downs go to makeup artists Cig Neutron and Rannie Rodil. Seriously, check out Rannie’s work, it’s a horror lover’s dream!
Emma Roberts Representing
Emma Roberts might be the heir apparent to Jamie Lee Curtis crown. Here she’s in a store-bought a hat that looks straight out of the ’78 original. Look out behind you, Emma!
Bella Hadid and The Weeknd in Beetlejuice
So the couple called it quits in 2019 but rumors still circulate that they’re on again, off again. One more Beetlejuice and Lydia costume moment this year would be pretty epic, though. That’s probably more likely than the actual sequel happening any time soon.
Harryween II
Harry looks great in heels and Judy Garland is still a true icon, thanks to homages like this. If only we could have heard a duet between these two.
Heidi Klum goes full Hell Priest
Heidi Klum has been given the ultimate title of the Queen of Halloween. Klum always goes full out and makes sure to give credit where credit is due. FX artist Mike Marino at Prosthetic Renaissance truly outdid himself with this Cenobite-inspired get-up.
Lizzo’s secret Jedi name is Grogu
Please warp speed me to this Tiki bar where Lizzo was hanging out at dressed as Grogu from The Mandalorian. Can we get a LEGO Star Wars: Terrifying Tales cameo, please?
Reese Witherspoon as Tippi Hedren
This was actually what it was kind of like when Tippi Hedren filmed that classic bedroom scene in The Birds. Witherspoon doesn’t look aptly terrified, however. She’s clearly having a ball, nevertheless, and a Hitchcock reference is always appreciated here at Dread Central.
Halsey Goes Stop-Motion as the Corpse Bride
We all can’t wait to see what Halsey cooks up for a costume this year. Keep an eye out, she’s a legitimate fan of horror who has really been delivering some show-stoping ensembles.
Joker Bob Briggs
Shudder’s Joe Bob’s Halloween Hangout premieres on October 22. Plan your night accordingly and come join some of us who are surely planning on live-tweeting the event!
