Quentin Tarantino Says This Wholesome, Family-Friendly TV Series Is His ‘Hands Down Favorite’

Say what you will about Quentin Tarantino, but the man has always kept us guessing. The filmmaker, known for creating countless very violent touchstones of American cinema, has a very surprising favorite television series.

Speaking with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, Tarantino once professed his love for the Y2K-era sitcom How I Met Your Mother. He didn’t only say he enjoys the wholesome series, but called it his favorite series at the time, “hands down”. The director doesn’t clarify if this means it’s his favorite series of all time, but either way, this is some high praise from the Kill Bill director.

“Hands down, my favorite show is How I Met Your Mother, ” he told MTV News. “I’ve been watching that since the very first episode, so that’s the one show that I always keep watching.”

How I Met Your Mother is a light-hearted CBS sitcom created by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays in 2005. The show ran all the way through 2014 and earned critical acclaim and commercial success. The sitcom concerns main character Ted Mosby, a single in New York City, who is on the search for a romantic partner.

The series eventually went on to receive whopping 21 major awards. It stars Alyson Hannigan, Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, and Jason Segel.

While the original series concluded its run in 2014, the How I Met franchise lives on. After 208 episodes, the franchise has found a new era with the spin-off series How I Met Your Father. Created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, the new project premiered on Hulu on January 18, 2022. It has since been renewed for a second season, giving new life to a sitcom that just won’t die.
