‘Evil Dead Rise’ Trailer Has Its World Premiere At BruceFest2022
BruceFest 2022 at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado took place last weekend and the belle of the ball, Bruce Campbell himself, started the 3-day festival off with a bang by unveiling the very first trailer for the upcoming film, Evil Dead Rise.
Unfortunately, Campbell and Co. asked attendees not to record any video or photos of the trailer. But there are some key points from the trailer that our on-site correspondent noted, and we wanted to share those points with readers.
- As previously confirmed, the fifth Evil Dead film takes place not in a cabin, but in a high-rise apartment in Los Angeles. Per the official plot synopsis, ““In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
- Speaking of motherhood, a character that we presume to be Ellie opened the trailer with this eloquent bit of motherly love: “It was the most beautiful day. It was a perfect day. And all I could think about was how much I wanted to cut you all open and climb inside your bodies.”

- The trailer didn’t reveal who was who in the film, but it did showcase a young girl answering the door to an apartment, looking through the peephole, and telling the visitor, “You don’t look so good, mom.”
- In response, the visitor said something like, “Your mom is with the maggots now.” Lovely.
- The trailer showcases somebody reading that god-forsaken incantation from the Necronomicon. You know the one – it’s the thing that turns all of your loved ones into flesh-eating demons. Unfortunately for Beth and company, it doesn’t matter if the book is read in a cabin or an apartment, in the woods or a big city – when those words are read, your friends are dead. (We just came up with that tagline. It should be on the poster).
- The trailer featured multiple ‘Deadites,’ one of whom even chomped on a piece of glass. And yes, he swallowed it. And the audience saw the glass go in, and out, of his throat.
- The trailer revealed that this film will very much be in the vein of the Fede Alvarez Evil Dead ‘remake.’ Ash vs Evil Dead, this is not. It’s scary, it’s violent, and it does not let up.
- While Bruce Campbell is serving as a producer of the film, along with Sam Raimi and Robert Tapery, the character Ash will not be in the film. We’re not sure if this is a new “universe” or not, but it is a new story. And it’s one that needs to be seen to be believed.
- The general release of the trailer should be coming up soon, and the film itself will premiere on April 21, 2022.
- Oh! Most importantly, there is a chainsaw and somebody does pick it up to use it.

“I swear to God it will not suck,” Campbell told the audience after the trailer reveal.
Lee Cronin is directing the film for Warner Bros./New Line Cinema. Campbell said Cronin is twisted, but that the producers are very excited about the film.
“Sam Raimi picked him,” Campbell said. “He’s a nice Irish boy…who’s very twisted. He wrote it as well. But we think he did a really stellar job.”
Campbell also revealed that the response from test audiences implored Warner Bros. to move the film from streaming to an actual theater release.
“This was supposed to go to streaming,” Campbell said. “Because all of the theaters were shut down. We made this deal, sort of, when it was really a problem to get a movie into a theater again. And somebody screened it and it tested okay. Then we finished it and we screened it again. And the ratings were so much higher that Warner Brothers went, ‘Okay, we’re putting it in theaters!’ And that’s good news. It’s good news for the producers as well.”

He said that last bit with his tongue planted firmly in his cheek, and the audience loved it.
Following the trailer reveal, Campbell posted a photo from the film to his Twitter page, which reveals the majority of the main characters of the film.
“It’s coming to a theater near you,” he closed. “We’re gonna be teasing stuff. The idea is to try and torture a small amount of people and hopefully they’ll torture a larger amount of people and then they’ll tell everyone else.”
That was our mission, and we chose to accept it. Now, our job here is done.
