This New Prime Video Series Is Hailed As “One Of The Best Mystery Dramas”

Isabel Deroy-Olson as Kara Two-Rivers

Prime Video recently rolled out a brand new Canadian mystery in time for our holiday binges. The Alfred Molina-led show has been dropping two episodes a week since December 1st. While Three Pines flew under a lot of our radars, it has found quite a few fans on Twitter.

In the series, a man investigates murders in Three Pines. He sees things that others do not: the light between the cracks, the mythic in the mundane, and discovers long-buried secrets and faces a few of his own ghosts.

Chief Inspector Armand Gamache (Alfred Molina) and extras.

Three Pines was created by Emilia di Girolamo and based on Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache novels. The television adaption stars Alfred Molina, Tantoo Cardinal, Rossif Sutherland, Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, and Sarah Booth.

Many people have taken to Twitter to praise Molina’s performance. Others are also highlighting how it handles Indigenous communities in the narrative. Three Pines has also been described as a “feel-good” watch which is very odd for a murder mystery. Needless to say, the Twitter conversation has us curious to see what this show is about.

The Inspector Gamache novels the series are based on currently have 18 books. The first book, Still Life, was published in 2005 and was adapted for Canadian Broadcast Television in 2013. The series has gone on to win numerous awards as well earning spots on various bestsellers lists.

Because I love a mystery, I’m going to check it out. Let me know if you’re also thinking about hitting play Three Pines at @misssharai.
