So, Where Is The Unrated Version Of ‘M3GAN’? We Have Some Answers

M3GAN Akela Cooper

This is an Akela Cooper stan account. She penned Malignant and then turned around and gave us the most exciting movie of the year, M3GAN. We love the new horror icon but had questions when the movie earned a PG-13 rating.

We know what Cooper is capable of and expected a bloody, murder-happy doll slay-fest. It turns out that we weren’t the only ones surprised by the gore being turned down several notches in the final edit.

When asked about M3GAN during an interview with Los Angeles Times, Cooper said:

No shade to Universal, love them, and I understand that once the trailer went viral, teenagers got involved, and you want them to be able to see it. There should be an unrated version at some point…I heard it is on the books.

While that’s enough to give us hope in humanity again, Cooper elaborated on what we can expect whenever this version appears.

“… it was way gorier. Her body count in the script was higher than in the movie. It wasn’t a Gabriel [in Malignant] scale massacre, but she did kill a bunch more people, including a couple of characters whom James was like, “I like what you did with those people, but I want them to live.” I was merciless, but again, that is me. My humor is extremely dark.”

So, there we have it. The movie we love has a version that gives us more reasons to get out of bed. Now that M3GAN is on VOD, we’re expecting a blu-ray release that will hopefully give us the gory goods.

The unrated version will be a nice gift to keep us warm as we wait for M3GAN 2.0. The sequel is set to drop on January 17, 2025. It will also see the return of stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw.
