The Number One Movie On The Prime Video Charts Is An Unmissable Horror Chiller

The most-watched film on Amazon Prime Video this week is an unsettling tale that raked in a fortune during its box office run. Parker Finn’s Smile (which is adapted from this short) serves up nail-biting levels of suspense and it is all but guaranteed to get under your skin.

Though I am ever-so-slightly irked that Smile borrows so liberally from the basic premise of The Ring and gets a touch heavy-handed with its mental health metaphor, I absolutely cannot deny that this effectively packaged effort scared the bejeezus out of me. And that’s high praise, considering I don’t startle easily. The camerawork, sound design, score, and lighting combine to create an eerie and atmospheric effort that really got under my skin.

Smile follows Rose (Sosie Bacon), a psychiatrist with a traumatic past from which she has spent years running. Following a brutal and heartbreaking encounter where she watches a patient commit suicide, Rose begins to experience hallucinations and notices her own mental health quickly deteriorating. From there, Rose races to determine how what she witnessed impacted her and tries to break the cycle before she becomes the next in a long line of victims.

In addition to Bacon, the film also stars Jessie T. Usher, Kyle Gallner, Robin Weigert, Caitlin Stasey, and Kal Penn. As well as being at the helm of this chilling effort, Parker Finn also penned the screenplay for Smile.

The flick raked in a massive $216 million at the global box office. While there hasn’t yet been a formal sequel announcement, there’s a very strong possibility that a follow-up effort will materialize. With numbers like that, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that another installment is imminent.

What did you think of Smile? If you haven’t yet seen it, you can scope the film on Amazon Prime. Be sure to let us know your thoughts on Twitter or Facebook.
