Legendary Scares Up a New Director for SpectralEver since Norwegian helmers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) left Legendary’s production of Spectral, the hunt has been on to find another director, and finally the studio has someone in its sights.

Variety reports that the studio is now in talks with commercials director Nic Mathieu to take the helm of the supernatural thriller. The script, based on a treatment by Ian Fried and with a most recent script draft by Jayson Rothwell, is being viewed as a potential franchise.

The project is centered on a modern-day, militaristic, and gritty approach to fighting the supernatural. Sources say the pitch, which sold for six figures, has been described as a darker and more serious take on a Ghostbusters-like story, with a plot that revolves around a special ops group formed to bring down evil ghosts that have taken over Manhattan.

More as it comes.
