‘The Blackening’ – Trailer For Buzzy, Black Horror Satire Arrives: “We can’t all die first”

The Blackening

This June 16th, the world will finally be treated to a horror-comedy from director Tim Story that made waves at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. The Blackening is a biting satire about an ensemble of Black friends who find themselves in serious danger at a remote woodland cabin.

The Blackening is directed by Tim Story and written by Tracy Oliver & Dewayne Perkins. The film stars Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Melvin Gregg, X Mayo, Dewayne Perkins, Antoinette Robertson, Sinqua Walls, with Jay Pharoah, and Yvonne Orji.

The movie centers around a group of Black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer. Forced to play by his rules, the friends soon realize this ain’t no motherf****** game. Directed by Tim Story (Ride AlongThink Like A ManBarbershop) and screenplay and screen story by Tracy Oliver (Girls TripHarlem) & Dewayne Perkins (The Amber Ruffin ShowBrooklyn Nine-Nine), The Blackening skewers genre tropes and poses the sardonic question: if the entire cast of a horror movie is Black, who dies first?
